Somewhere between ordering the very last eBay tester of my favorite discontinued Ferragamo perfume from 2009 and crying that I no longer had a go-to scent, I came up with an idea: what if I asked ChatGPT to help me find a replacement? If AI is really so brilliant, it should be able to scent match based on the notes of my favorite fragrance, right? Errm . . . not exactly. I chatted with fragrance expert and founder of The Fragrance Society Tiff Benson, who invited me to her home studio to get into the weeds. In about an hour's worth of mind-blowing finds, Benson taught me that fragrance is extremely personal. Smelling certain scents can be an entirely different experience on a tester strip versus human skin. What's more, Benson came up with her own recommendations based on my perfume preference, and they were far superior to those from ChatGPT. In fact, we ended up finding one nearly identical to Ferragamo: Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline ($209), which I now consider to be my saving grace thanks to Benson. If you love perfumes that are clean-smelling, floral, and slightly aquatic with musk and woody accords, and a hint of lotus, check out the seven other contenders that I've now happily added to my rotation after my visit with Benson, which you can watch a clip of here. |
- Try Clean Soft Laundry ($33) if you lean more powdery than citrusy in your taste. I personally think this one has the subtlest "sunscreen" note to it, which I love.
- Try DedCool Aura ($90) for a more candied, sweeter scent with a caramel-esque dry down.
- Try The 7 Virtues Lotus Pear ($94) for a show-stopping pear moment that's undeniably sweet.
- Try Ellis Brooklyn Myth ($115) for citrusy top notes and a more musky base.
- Try Kayali Eden Juicy Apple ($150) for a fragrance that screams "apple picking in the fall."
- Try Jo Malone Fig & Lotus ($168) for a heavy fig scent balanced with a creamy effervescence. This one's a bit sharper around the edges.
- Try Maison Francis Kurkdjian 724 ($180) for a "watery clean" elevated version of this vibe. We decided this one is the next-level version of my new go-to Bvlgari scent, and I'll be wearing it on my wedding day.

Influenced: I'm So Into Kylie Jenner's $65 Sunglasses |
It may be winter, but sunny days are still in the forecast, lest you forgot. I recently tried a few more pairs of Otra Eyewear sunglasses — a favorite affordable brand of It-girls Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber — and I'm hooked. Jenner wore this pair, appropriately named the Kenny ($65), while she and sister Kendall boarded a boat in Italy last summer. Since then, she's also been spotted in the Lulu ($65), which boasts an even slimmer shape. While the beauty mogul and billionaire could be wearing cat eyes from any high-end luxury brand, she chooses this modern Australian label at a fraction of the cost, which is saying something about its quality. Clearly, I'm hooked. |
