I Styled Barrel Jeans Like Kendall, Then Took the Debate to the Streets |
Barrel leg jeans have quickly replaced the oversize, baggy look that was everywhere last year. I personally think jeans feel a bit more polished with a taper at the ankle, and I was fully prepared to try the assortment Levi's sent me, then pick a favorite. Only: I ended up loving them all. Inspired by Kendall Jenner's minimalist, model-off-duty moment at right, I styled the Levi's Drop Barrel Jeans ($250) with a basic tee and hit the streets of NYC to ask folks what they really think about the silhouette — and whether or not they'd wear it on a first date. My reporting revealed that Gen Z tends to favor the barrel leg (and baggy styles in general), whereas millennials are a bit less enthusiastic about it being a full representation of their style. That being said, I myself am a millennial and can't get enough of the jean style since I started wearing it. I find it to be flattering and surprisingly elongating for my 5'1" frame. Influenced: Sabrina Carpenter's Makeup Artist Applied My Lashes |
If you've seen Sabrina Carpenter in full glam, it's hard not to notice her doll-like lashes. So when I was invited to coffee with Carolina Gonzalez, her longtime makeup artist who launched a Self-Stick Lash Clusters Set ($18) with Velour, I had one request: could she show me how to apply them? I'm often humbled by beauty products, and applying anything to my face with glue or adhesive is not my strong suit. I have naturally long lashes, so even mascara leaves my lids feeling heavy without a proper curler. But Gonzalez made the process easy — my lids felt weightless after she applied the lashes over an *obligatory* espresso. She also talked me through the process and shared some tips for applying these lashes specifically: - Place the faux lash cluster three lashes in, rather than at the edge, to create a snatching effect.
- When applying yourself, try looking down at a handheld mirror to make application easier and help you find placement.
- Allow the natural curve of the cluster to find the root of your lash, and lightly tap it on.
Gonzalez also shared some sweet tidbits about her work with Carpenter, who she's watched grow up through the years. "Sabrina knows who she is," she says, confirming that the pop star is extremely collaborative when it comes to makeup, and even teaches her a thing or two from time to time. One more highlight? For quick flips or makeup resets — including transitions from red carpet to stage — she uses Pond's Cold Face Cream ($26, originally $30). |
