Can Kim Kardashian Dominate the Energy Drink Market, Too? |
The energy drink market is booming. In just the past year, I've watched brands like Unwell, Bloom, and Gorgie enter the chat — not to mention the long-standing dominance of Celsius and Red Bull. It's giving canned hard seltzer circa 2019, except arguably more lucrative as alcohol sales continue to dip. So where does Update Energy ($22, for a 12-pack), Kim Kardashian's latest launch, fit in? I tried it with a focus on everything that matters: packaging, taste, ingredients, and — most importantly — how it actually made me feel. Unlike traditional energy drinks, Update uses paraxanthine (a caffeine metabolite) instead of caffeine itself. It's also sugar-free and contains no artificial colors or flavors. The formula includes Alpha-GPC, L-theanine, and vitamin B12, which are commonly associated with focus and cognitive support. The biggest difference? The energy felt steady. No spike, no crash, no jittery "I need to pace the room" feeling. I felt alert but calm — focused enough to keep working without that buzzy edge I sometimes get from Celsius or Red Bull. |
