Yet, as Tomé Morrissy-Swan writes, its future is at risk. Speaking to scientists and farmers from Brazil to the Royal Botanic Gardens, he finds the outlook is dire: a recent report states that fifty per cent of the world’s coffee-growing land could disappear by 2100 due to climate change.
However, it’s not all bitter beans: new, delicious varieties could become popularised, with one expert enthusing that “it should be exciting for everybody, there’s so much tasty coffee to come.”
