HEAD OF FASHION

Four days on from the Coronation and there’s still masses to digest, not least some useful lessons if you’re going to any big events this summer. These are some of my key take-outs:

Head-to-toe colour outperformed prints by a mile. The most popular were pink, blue and, perhaps surprisingly, yellow. When you consider the range of shades now available in yellow – from rich clotted creams right through to daffodil, it seems an appealing, fresh choice.

Coat dresses and matching coats and dresses. Many women circle these options warily. Will they look too “mother of the bride”? (Women seem to worry about this even when they are mothers of the bride.) But when a matching coat and dress fit as well as Brigitte Macron’s blush pink sheath and coat, it’s a whole different proposition: grown up, for sure, but also modern and very sophisticated. Read my full take on the Abbey fashion here.

Whether it’s Massimo Dutti or McQueen, get it properly fitted. It makes every imaginable difference.

Enjoy!
Lisa

On Lisa's recommendation

Last week I met with Polly McMaster, founder of The Fold in her store. Ostensibly I was there to look at what they had planned over the next few months (plenty of great office and work wear).

But for now, my hot tip is the socks McMaster wore under her jeans: Falke’s 12 denier Shelinas. She was wearing a shade called Sun and they looked so natural, I thought she was bare legged. With no toe seams, you could wear them with sandals (£7, Falke).
