Plus: How to tell if your wellies are posh and 6 ways to undo the damage of a sleepless night
| | | By Lisa Armstrong HEAD OF FASHION | | Formulaic dressing never gets a good rap. But a fashion formula always intrigues. The latest one is called 2 x 2 dressing and the reason it’s taking social media by storm is because it’s simple. In every outfit (I’m hearing Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins in my head) you just need to make sure you include two casual pieces and two smart items. And voila – you’ve landed on the perfect modern tone.
Clearly there’s a bit more to it than that. Proportions are key. If it’s oversized on top then it needs to be slim below, or vice versa. And every single thing should be the right length for your body. In fact, who said rules are dead? It’s not true and that’s a good thing. The dictatorial rules – you must wear a mini skirt, it’s all about skinny jeans – of the past have melted away. In their place come some very useful guidelines.
