COMMISSIONING BEAUTY EDITOR | | | The appearance of the sun this week is a reminder that sandal and slingback season is fast approaching. If, like me, your professional pedicure bookings over the winter months are basically zero, it’s definitely time to pay the feet some much-needed attention. Podiatrist and foot specialist Margaret Dabbs had some encouraging news when I chatted to her this week, telling me that ‘with the correct products, feet are the one area which you can transform instantly’. We all love a quick fix, so this is joyous news. But where to start?
Jan Masters looks into the best buys for DIY home pedicure transformations, chatting to the glamorous pedicure maestro Bastien Gonzales from his suite at the Mandarin Oriental where he treats royalty and A-listers. I feel I’d have to book a pedi before revealing my winter trotters to Gonzalez for one of his high end treatments (he uses a chamois nail buffer and mother of pearl paste to buff the nails to polished perfection), but he does have some very good insider tips, such as using a crystal nail file for a professional finish. Jan also recommends some bargain foot products including the Margaret Dabbs Professional Foot File, which is hands down the best hard skin remover I’ve ever used. Brilliantly, it will last a lifetime, as is made from stainless steel and you can buy replacement pads.
I feel a slingback is within sight! Now I just have to tackle the minefield which is self tan. Just as well we’ve got a bank holiday with some extra days off.
