Plus: How M&S lost its big knickers crown and why ‘exercise snacking’ could extend your life by two years
| | | By Lisa Armstrong HEAD OF FASHION | | What’s your repeat buy? Almost all of us have one – whether it was the late Queen and her Launer handbags or Alexa Chung’s ballet pumps. At their best, a repeat buy is your most dependable classic – the power tool that gets you through a bad day and turns mediocre days into good ones. And each new buy is an upgrade on the last.
But what if repeat buying has become an annoying tic? If you have 30 white shirts or ten pairs of black trousers, all of them more or less the same, you’re probably buying for the sake of it. Worse still, that sea of white is preventing you from trying out new looks. Start by winnowing your current collection down to seven – one for every day of the week – and put a hold on buying any more for six months. By then you’ll know whether you have the perfect edit and can redirect your budget to items that unlock many more looks.
