Are you bare-legging it yet or still clinging to your cashmere scarf? We’re not the only nation who has to grapple with changeable weather at this time of the year, but because of our individualistic approach to dressing, we’re probably at the top of the table when it comes to adopting the widest, most variable tactics.

There’s no right or wrong way. The most important thing is to dress according to your body shape and – weird but stay with me – your circulation. Mine is slow but steady. In other words, I really feel the cold, so a little knitted bralet in April, a la Katie Holmes, is never going to work on me.

Ok, there are many reasons I won’t be working a bralet, but I admire women who do. Taking risks with your style demands pluck, especially as we get older, which is why Brigitte Macron is always worth a study. Whatever you think of her outfits, they’re bold. At the same time, Frenchwoman that she is, there’s a tried and trusted formula of shapes (skinny trousers, slim skirts and hip-length blazers and jackets).

Rules – there’s a lot to be said for them.

Enjoy!
Lisa

On Lisa's recommendation

Bombers are proving to be the jacket of the season. No surprises really – they work with high waists, flares or narrow trousers and add some youthful attitude to an old dress. This one from Zara, in a flattering pinky-beige wool and polyester with chic pockets, is a grown-up version which will be a useful staple for years to come. (£89.99, Zara)
