Plus: How to rejuvenate tired eyes and the ‘elite’ couples breeding to save mankind
| | | By Lucia Ferrari COMMISSIONING BEAUTY EDITOR | | Al fresco drinks on a sunny terrace, the first cappuccino outdoors and weekend lunches in the garden are all fabulous signs that summer is on the way – but I can’t be the only one to have a sinking feeling when it comes to the “bodmin”. That is, the extra body maintenance involved before stepping outside tights-free, when for most of us our legs and arms haven’t seen the sun since last summer.
Don’t get me started on lengthy self-tan applications, which used to take me the best part of a morning with some of the early formulations, given the exfoliating, buffing and waiting-for-it-to-dry saga involved. I remember entire evenings with my sister-in-law in Italy when we’d cancel plans to devote the night to perfecting a streak-free application.
Thankfully, beauty formulations and products have improved since then. I’m feeling a tiny bit smug this year as I’ve spoken to several experts and have found a super-easy regime for taking care of everything from “chicken skin” on the backs of arms to improving the appearance of dry heels or making pasty shins look a bit glossier before venturing out. I started it last week and it works!
Jan Masters meanwhile has entered the eye cream debate – is it or is it not necessary? I find this time of year can cause havoc with watery eyes, particularly if you’re a hay fever sufferer, so I always recommend using one to help de-puff or smooth things out – especially the morning after a few glasses of rosé during a long sunny lunch!
