Not shocking, but red lipstick is back following a dearth of facial colour on the red carpets in recent months. It could be the cost of living crisis or the near advent of spring. Whatever the cause, red lips are a surefire way to enliven a sallow complexion while giving the wearer instant confidence to soldier on in style, for less than a meal out.

In my feature The return of the red lip – and how to find the perfect shade, I explore the conundrums many of us face when choosing the right hue, texture and application method. Too warm and teeth can appear yellow, very cool and it can wash out an otherwise healthy-looking complexion. Matte, satin, with or without lip liner…I cover it all. Then again, you could just ignore the rules altogether which works more often than not, as an element of ‘who-cares’ goes a long way towards dismantling ageist preconceptions.

Elsewhere, Hailey Bieber’s ‘glazed doughnut’ look is still going strong, first on skin now on nails, as Jan Masters finds out. For the uninitiated, we’re talking glossy, neutral polish that gives hands and nails a glowing, youthful appearance. And who doesn’t want that?

Have fun!
