One of the keys to unlocking the fashion riddle is shoes. The right ones can make the same outfit look cool, quirky, classic, smart or unapologetically glamorous. Hence our guide to the most up-to-date footwear trends, from Mary Janes to kitten heels, wooden flatforms to clugs (a deliberately ugly clog), we’ve covered most bases.

Why would anyone knowingly pick ugly? Sometimes a bit of ugly is the grit your oyster needs to make its pearl. Or, put another way, too much of the same thing can make an outfit predictable. A shirt dress with kitten heels? Pretty and perfect for a royal tea party, but if you want to look more contemporary, some days you’ll also style it with clompy sandals, or even some of those jewelled ballet flats (a la Azzedine Alaia) that have become this season’s unexpected it shoe.

Talking of cult buys, would you consider a timeshare in one? If you’ve always hankered after a Lady Dior, or some equally high priced, blue chip bag, timeshare could be your way in.

Enjoy!
Lisa
