HEAD OF FASHION

Well, that was a January and a half wasn’t it? Two sets of M&S thermal leggings later and I’m just about warming up. By the way, if you find tights itchy or claustrophobic, sometimes thermal leggings and socks can feel more comfortable. I have no idea why, although presumably it’s to do with the fabrics. You need boots of course, to hide the join.

Speaking of M&S, the Fashion Desk went undercover – i.e. walked into our nearest store – to see what, if anything, could truly pass the Style Test. We were pleasantly surprised – and simultaneously horrified. When it’s good – cashmere, unexpectedly well-cut jeans and trousers, some great “silky” blouses and a really knockout pair of kitten heel slingbacks – M&S is really, really good. When it’s bad, it’s horrid. If only it could slough off the zillions of below par products it has the makings of a stop off on the stylish shopper’s itinerary… Let’s see what happens when it opens those 20 new flagships across our benighted high streets.

Enjoy!
Lisa

On Lisa's recommendation

The Princess of Wales’s red trouser suit on Monday night was a real light-in-the-depths-of-winter moment. There really is something uplifting about the clarity of a pure red. If head to toe is a bit much but you’d like some of the energy, this Brora tank is perfect – and quite the bargain at £69 in the sale (£69, broraonline.com)
