Plus: The handy alternative to ironing and why vegan fashion isn't all that it seems
| | | By Lisa Armstrong, HEAD OF FASHION | | Boots have become the de facto footwear for a major part of the year for many of us. Chunky tractor soles in the depths of winter. Chelsea boots when it's a bit warmer. Kitten or block heels when we’re going out. Knee boots with midis. Over-the-knee with shorter lengths, or when you don’t want to wear tights… There are as many varieties as Heinz soups or the styles of hats that our great-grandmothers felt they had to wear at all times.
So it stands to reason that The Spring Boot is now a bona fide category. Check out Chanel’s latest show to see the perfect template. It’s not often that a couture collection comes up with something that feels relevant for the majority. This is where hand-beaded red carpet frocks go for hundreds of thousands. But the elegant dark-tipped, oblong-toed, block-heeled stretch boots at Chanel’s latest show in Paris on Tuesday look likely to spawn a whole load of tributes.
Bring them on. Anything that bridges the void between now and spring seems delightfully refreshing.
