If there's one thing to know about me, it's that I'm a fashion girl. While everyone else's Thanksgiving mornings as a child usually started with helping their family cook, mine often started with trips to the Macy's annual parade, which I had the privilege of viewing from my grandmother's showroom (she worked as a highly sought-after seamstress for over three decades). While I was always excited to see my favorite figures in the parade, I loved being able to play in tons of luxury samples (my 8-year-old self obviously wanted to work in fashion) — it's really just embedded in who I am. As I've grown in my journalism career, beauty has also become a major part of my identity, which made it almost too easy to create my gift guide for this year. I love shopping naturally, and love giving gifts, but I also love receiving them. At the same time, I can be a little bit difficult to shop for, being that my PR friends send me a package every day, which is why my carefully selected wish list now exists. From my unnatural obsession with Yves Saint Laurent's scents (a set of two that's only $35, might I add) to creative pieces from some of my favorite Black-owned brands, these picks are perfect for any and every fashion and beauty girl — especially if you're obsessed with culture like me. |
