In case you didn't notice — revenge dresses are in (as if they were ever really out). Huda Mustafa's black cutout mini on season seven of "Love Island USA" has helped renew society's obsession with them, but like other fads, revenge dresses are nothing new. We're talking Mariah Carey's high-slit moment after a tumultuous marriage, Tina Turner's leather Alaïa ensemble in her post-Ike Turner era, Ariana Madix's red cutout set in the wake of #Scandoval, and of course, Princess Diana's off-the-shoulder black dress when Prince Charles boasted his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. While all of these dresses showcase sartorial creativity through bold silhouettes and boundary-pushing design choices, they also tell a story. PS style director Jessica Andrews has her own revenge dress story, having learned the power in wearing one at a New Year's Eve party just days after a tough breakup. "Fashion is such a personal, intimate act for me; I get dresses based on my mood, my desires, my social calendar for the week," she says. "I don't want that process to be hijacked by someone else, let alone someone who caused me harm." She quickly learned that the revenge dress is not about dressing with the other party in mind. It's about a woman embracing confidence within herself as she heals from woes of the past, not for grandstanding or bashing's sake, but for finding herself again. Whether or not you've endured a cringe relationship moment as of late, we've gathered a few of our favorite revenge dresses that are sure to make you feel your most confident. After all, who doesn't love a good dress? |

Not only is it a great choice for beginners, but they offer single classes for as low as $25, so you have the chance to scope things out before committing to a full membership. |
