| | It’s full steam ahead on fashion month, with London Fashion Week’s 40th anniversary having been kicked off by buzzy rising star Harris Reed at the Tate Modern last night.
His collection was a whimsy of rich velvets, 250-year-old Point de Venise lace and surrealist, mad hatter-worthy designs that we’re sure to see on red carpets come next awards season (my bets are on Kate Beckinsale, Ellie Goulding and even Emma Thynn, the Marchioness of Bath, all of whom I spotted on the front row). But before London came New York, where Avril Mair, fashion director of Elle and Harper’s Bazaar UK, observed that bright colours are out and power dressing is taking a turn for the sporty. She hustled between all the most exciting shows to bring you the top five ageless trends from New York Fashion Week to try now – including one that Anna Wintour had previously sworn off, but was spotted wearing on the streets of Brooklyn…
