Plus: Make your own boozy lollies for 45p
| | It was an amusing but horrifying brief for our journalist Lucy Denyer.
Ahead of their launch yesterday, she was tasked with trying out M&S’s £15 “Bum Boosting Shorts”: “essentially a padded bra for your bottom”. The appeal? According to the retailer’s head of lingerie, the garment will help women who want to have more shape in their curve-skimming dresses this summer. In Denyer’s words: “Kim Kardashian, eat your heart out.”
Her piece is witty, honest (“It looks like something Mrs Doubtfire would truss around her chest”). But it’s also about the seismic shift in our “ideal” body shape for women. “I spent so many of my formative years being conditioned into wanting a smaller bottom,” Denyer writes. “To deliberately enlarge it feels odd.”
Elsewhere, our Royal Editor Hannah Furness shadowed the woman people are calling “the hardest working royal”: Princess Anne. At 12pm today, Furness will be responding to questions in the comments. You can join in here.
Until next time,
