Plus: Who rocked (and who flopped) the billionaire bling look at the $100 million wedding party of the century
| | Fourteen years after the death of iconic British designer Lee Alexander McQueen, last week was the first time a collection had been shown in his name created by somebody who hasn’t experienced first-hand working with the man himself. Previously, McQueen’s right-hand woman, Sarah Burton, was at the helm until her departure last October.
Dublin-born Seán McGirr has taken over Burton’s role. His debut was a latex-filled one featuring exaggerated shoulders, tyre-like collars (which had a Michelin vibe) and even a pair of hoof boots with ponytails sticking out of the back. This was the show of the brand that designed the Princess of Wales’s wedding dress, but though the label has always been provocative, it’s unlikely that the Princess will be wearing any of the more avant-garde designs that went down the runway.
In other news, we take a look at those who embraced the billionaire bling look (or failed to) at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding in India, and writer Martin Gayford finds the secret treasures of Venice – the perfect read for planning a city break.
Enjoy!
