Plus: 'Ozempic helped me drop four dress sizes'
| | “I had never seen anything like Biba, and no other shop had that treasure-trove enchantment,” writes Maya Slater. The iconic womenswear brand changed the face of British fashion – and it wasn’t just the clothes. Slater recounts the delicious joy of visiting the London boutique, particularly when it moved to a larger location on Kensington Church Street in 1966.
As a penniless student Slater regularly went on a pilgrimage to Biba to revel in the feathers and gaze at the glitter. She still has some of the pieces that she bought, including a fabulous pair of lilac suede boots – that cost her a meagre £7 – and silver flared gangster trousers. Her heirloom buys show the joy of shopping consciously and collecting pieces that you will love for years (or even better, decades) to come.
On the topic of things that sparkle, Emily Ratajkowski may have started a new trend – the divorce ring – of repurposing an engagement ring when things go south. Elsewhere, we hear from someone who dropped from a size 16 to a size 8 with the help of Ozempic and if the warmer weather has you yearning for a getaway, discover Britain’s 30 greatest spring destinations.
Have a lovely day,
