Plus: Nine ways to dress like an Italian woman
| | | By Lisa Armstrong Head of Fashion | | One of the questions I’m frequently asked about my job: who’s my favourite designer? It’s hard to come up with a definitive answer. If I want a snapshot of the state the world’s in, it’s Miuccia Prada – parse her latest collection and you’ll see so much of what’s going on reflected in the clothes and accessories.
For languid beauty it might be Erdem. For colour, Roksanda. For easy luxury, Max Mara… but for the most elevated fashion you can actually wear, it’s a toss up between Valentino’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli and Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri, who as it happens, had a long, fruitful working relationship when they were together at Fendi and then Valentino before Chiuri’s move to Paris.
We’ve yet to see Valentino’s latest collection – that’s Sunday. But Dior’s was on Tuesday. Once again, Chiuri dusted off the archives. This time she grasped the 1960s, an era that can look stiff and ungainly to modern eyes, and came up with a lightweight, modern formula for elegance.
See the highlights here… and vive la femme.
Elsewhere, I offer up some tips from Milan Fashion Week on how we can all dress more Italian, which can never be a bad thing.
Have a wonderful day.
