Dubbed the “rural Oscars”, the Countryside Alliance Awards (sponsored by the Daily Telegraph) celebrates the best of small shops around the nation. From a community shop in Gloucestershire that makes its own gin and sells local chocolate to a crab shack that also serves milk from a local farm, there’s lots to love.

“We try to do everything as locally as we can,” says Gwyn Price of Bayview Stores in Pembrokeshire. “I am always trying to share the wealth around the village as much as I can.”

But which shop took the winning spot? Scroll down to find out.

Before treating yourself to a spot of afternoon tea, read our health team’s piece on the truth about artificial sweeteners, and if you fancy some glamourous escapism, check out our guide to Cannes.
