Tuesday May 2 2023

When you turn up to the biggest event in the fashion calendar wearing a white furry cat costume, you can usually be confident that no one else will have made the same outfit decision. Not so at this year’s Met Gala. The theme of the event was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in tribute to the designer following his death in 2019, which inspired a number of feline looks paying tribute to Lagerfeld’s 11-year-old Birman cat, Choupette. US rapper Doja Cat’s silver Oscar de la Renta ensemble featured cat ears, a prosthetic cat nose and cat claw-inspired acrylic nails, whilst Jared Leto simply wore a giant fluffy cat suit.

Fortunately the fashion didn’t stop at fur. Scroll through our gallery to see dramatic trains, archive pieces and full-feather looks from the best-dressed guests of this year’s Met Gala.

Plus, read our interview with fashion legend Anna Wintour and explore the beautiful slice of rural England that was wiped off the map by bureaucrats.

Enjoy!
