If you have neglected to fit in your 'big shop' at the weekend, a visit to Tesco Express or Sainsbury's Local on the way home from work is likely on the cards. But grabbing dinner from a convenience store may see you shelling out a lot more than if you’d shopped at the same chain’s superstore. A recent report revealed that goods in Tesco Express are 10.4 per cent more expensive than in larger Tesco stores, while Sainsbury’s marks up by an average of 8.4 per cent in its Local branches – and other chains are just as guilty. So what's the reason for the varying prices? Xanthe Clay investigates why convenience comes at a cost.

Plus, Chris Bennion unpacks Happy Valley's dramatic season finale (warning: contains spoilers) and our travel team reveal why now is the perfect time to visit Asia – and how to do it.

Enjoy!
