It helps that Wednesday Addams (a sarky, sulky antihero for the post-Harry Potter generation played by Jenna Ortega) is, even by my fashion editor standards, very chic. The severe white collar, the slightly shrunken blazer, the chunky track sole loafers (Prada, naturally)... I’ve found myself reaching for the black kohl for the first time in years, and mulling the potential of an eyelash-skimming fringe.
But even before Wednesday became the most popular show on Netflix (beating Stranger Things and a certain royal documentary), the goth look was infiltrating fashion. While the death of the Queen inspired funereal looks at Richard Quinn, Erdem and Simone Rocha, we also saw black lace and fishnets at Dior in Paris, while Versace had a haute goth moment in Milan with diaphanous gowns on models sporting inky hair and purple lips.
